Rev Kevin Wayne Johnson
Richmond, Virginia native Kevin Wayne Johnson is the eldest son of a U.S. Marine Corp veteran (father) and a U.S government civil servant (mother), who followed his parent’s service with the federal government as a mid-level and senior-level leader, then retired after 34 years. His maternal Grandmother, “Granny,” told him, at the age of eight, that he would be a preacher someday. That prophetic word was realized as an adult in ministry service as a deacon, associate pastor and senior pastor, following ordination into the Christian ministry in 2001 and again in 2011.
A proud student of the Richmond Public Schools, he graduated from Armstrong High School (1978) and Virginia Commonwealth University (1983) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration & Management. He is also a graduate of The George Washington University (1988), earning a Master’s Certification in Government Contracting, as well as the True Disciples Ministries Bible Institute (1999) in Somerville, New Jersey.
His employment with the U.S. federal government began in 1984 as an acquisition intern with the Department of Defense (Defense Logistics Agency). He was promoted from grade (GS) 5 to grade (GS) 11 during a four year span due to outstanding performance. In 1991, he was hired by the Internal Revenue Service as a grade (GS) 13 and was subsequently selected to participate in the 1995 Executive Potential Program, a one-year executive development program for high-potential mid-level leaders. Upon graduation, he was promoted to Regional Chief Procurement Officer, Northeast Region, in New York City. Upon returning to the Department of Defense in 2004, he served in several senior-level leadership positions including the standup of our nation’s newest military command, U.S. Cyber Command (2010) as Command Secretariat. In his final position before retirement in 2017, he served as Chief of Staff within the largest directorate at U.S. Army Military Base, Fort Meade, Maryland. In March 2016, he founded and serves as CEO of The Johnson Leadership Group whose vision is to create leaders of excellence at all levels. He and his team facilitate leadership development training and executive coaching services for the federal government, corporations, churches and academia. Using faith-based principles from Scripture, the business grew by 35% in 2020 and is projected to grow by 50% in 2021 in the USA and Africa. In 2021 he joined the Pinnacle Forum board of directors.
Kevin was baptized at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. His service there was as the youth prayer leader with the youth group. Upon relocating to the Washington, DC metropolitan area as an adult, in 1993 he and his wife joined Full Gospel AME Zion Church in Temple Hills, Maryland, where he accepted Christ as his Savior and immediately recalled that his ‘Granny” said that he would be a preacher. Following a job-related move to New Jersey, his family joined Shiloh Pentecostal Church where he was appointed to serve as chairman of the deacon ministry and taught the teens during Sunday school. Six years later, in 2003, they moved back to the Washington, DC area and joined Celebration Church, Columbia, Maryland. While there, he and his wife taught in the children’s church, he served as President and adjunct professor at the church’s Bible School, and as an Associate Pastor (responsible for ministry and discipleship). In 2014, he was appointed to serve as Senior Pastor at Accokeek First Church of God, Accokeek, Maryland, where he served the congregation for a five year term.
He is married to Gail, the father of three sons, one God daughter and one God granddaughter. They have lived in Clarksville, Maryland since 2003.
